Setting up a Custom Mail domain
Everyone wants to setup their own email addresses with their Domain name and I was one amongst them too. I wanted firstname.lastname@example.org. How should I go about creating it?
Here I will try to give the steps on how to do it. For this you need to own a desired Domain address say www.xyz.com. If not, you need to purchase it. Once you have purchased the domain, the next thing you need to get is a web hosting provider, which can be either a free hosting service or a paid service.
The free hosting comes with the obvious benefit of being a free account but with limitations such as limited space, bandwidth, processing power and uptime. The paid hosting won’t have the above mentioned issues.
Once you have the domain and hosting space, visit the Control panel of your hosting service provider. You can use the inbuilt services to create your mail email@example.com or you can get it created on Google Apps.
Here also, you have the free limited personal use version of apps or for the business. If you want to try out apps, select free and if you want more benefits, choose the Business version.
If you are want to use mail services from Google, then in the Control panel of your hosting service provider, do the following:
1 Select the domain name for which you want to create mail accounts
2. Select DNS Settings and select Edit or Add records
3 While adding records, select Record Type to MX. Do not add anything to the mail domain text field.
4. Enter Mail Exchanger as ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
5 Enter priority of Mail Exchanger with the number corresponding to the exchanger (List is given below)
6 Repeat the steps for all the mail exchangers given below.
Go to Google apps and create an account providing the Domain name. Once the account is setup, you can create mail accounts and login into Gmail using the same.
The mail accounts are setup and ready to use.
