Indian Grand Prix will be missed in 2014 calendar
Not so good news for the Formula 1 fans in India. The Indian Grand Prix has been dropped from the F1 Calendar for the year 2014. It is now set to return back to India at the start of 2015.
The future of the event in India was under question when the news broke that F1 will not be held in India in 2014. It was believed to be the heavy tax issues but, it is due to the race schedule and Jaypee didn’t want to host 2 races within a span of 6 months.
When we signed the five-year deal with Jaypee, we were keen on going to India in the first half and Jaypee wanted it to be in October. We gave in at that time, but now it looks we will have the race early 2015. It was too close. Therefore, after speaking to promoters, we think it is best not to have a race in 2014 and have one in 2015. – Bernie Ecclestone, Chairman & CEO, Formula One
The race will be back in India in 2015 by skipping the race in 2014. Earlier, it was planned to have the race in India during October of 2014 and FIA wanted to have the race in March along with Australia, Malasia, Bahrain and Chinese GP at the start of the season.
